PEN Holds Literature Teaching Workshop in Bohol

The Philippine PEN will hold " For Love of the Word: Workshops on Teaching Philippine Literature in High School and College " on February 27 (Monday), from 8:30 to 4:30 pm, at the Holy Name University, Janssen Campus, Tagbilaran City, Bohol. Specific venue is Skills Lab, College of Nursing Building. PEN writers and professors of literature Merlie Alunan and Steven Patrick Fernandez will serve as resource speakers/facilitators. This event is part of the series of literature teaching workshops organized by PEN in selected regions of the country, it seeks to enhance the skills of literature teachers in both secondary and tertiary levels, especially on teaching regional writing by Filipino authors. Previous workshops were held at Far Eastern University-Manila, University of San Agustin-Iloilo, University of Cebu, University of the Philippines-Baguio, and Naga College Foundation. K-12 int’l confab set in Pangasinan Jan. 19-21

AN international conference-workshop on the K-12 program of the Department of Education will be held at the Sison Auditorium in Lingayen on January 19 to 21, to be hosted by the provincial government. Dr. Marot Nelmida-Flores of the University of the Philippines, a native of San Carlos City, said the international conference-workshop, called “Addressing the K to 12 Curricular Enhancement in the Philippine Education 2012”, will be attended by the country’s educators and speakers from Australia, Japan, and the United States. Education Secretary Armin Luistro will be in attendance as well as officials of the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Science and Technology, and congressmen who have been at the forefront of education concerns. K-to-12 (Kindergarten to 12th grade) is a DepEd program, which seeks to expand the country's basic education to 12 years from the current 10 years to make Filipino high schools at par with the standards in other countries.
