I visited the National Library again and this time I was able to find some rare Pangasinan writings in the Rare Collections. There's the Impambilay na Arin Esteban tan Reyna Hipolita , Arte de la lengua Pangasinan o Caboloan by Fr. Mariano Pellicer and Bellas Artes (58pp) which I believe most of the Pangasinenses do not even know these works existed. There's also the classic Bilay tan Kalkalar nen Rizal by Pablo Mejia but I was not allowed to print a copy of the said book as it is their policy not to reproduce a rare collection. Well, policy or not, the National Library is depriving the us, Pangasineses, our literary heritage. In the News: Poet-diplomat to launch book of Cebuano poems When Consul Vicente Vivencio Bandillo returns to Cebu, it will also mark his second homecoming to the local literary scene. On Oct. 25, the Cebuano writers’ association Bathalan-ong Halad sa Dagang (Bathalad) will launch Bandillo’s maiden collection of Cebuano poems titled Sanglitanan sa Kalipa

I received an acknowledgement receipt yesterday in connection with my entry to the 2003 NCCA Writers' Prize under the Poetry Category. It is also stated in the said letter "It would be advisable to send a copy of the translation in Filipino or in English of your poems." However, it is clearly stated in the guidelines that all categories are open to English and all Philippine languages. The guidelines should have been in the following instead; "All categories are open to English, Filipino and other Philippine languages with translation in Filipino or in English." One thing more, my entry is under the Poetry category and not a Translation project. I sent an email to the NCCA already informing them to review what they've posted on their website (again) so as not to misguide or misinform writers / authors writing in other Philippine languages. INDEED, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is in line with its mission to preserve and protect nat

Here's an interesting Evolution of Latin Characters and, of course, the Philippine Abakada :) Visited the NCCA for the second time. The first time was when I submitted my entry for the Ubod series :) This time... well, kinda doing something for myself again and, of course, for the Pangasinenses. It has still something to do with the revival of Pangasinan as a literary language. And whether I make or not I'd surely post the outcome here.

Feel free to download and read the preview or buy the magazine :) In the News: Family heirloom turns out to be sheer poetry An 82-year-old woman in south-west China has decided to part with her family heirloom - a manuscript by a famous Song-dynasty poet which may be worth millions of dollars. The poet was Su Dongpo (1037-1101), which would make the writings more than 900 years old.

UBOD Updates I just received an email from Ms. Glenn Maboloc regarding the development of the Ubod Series. Well, they are going to stick to a 50-page limit per entry. The NCCA's Committee on Literary Arts will meet on Oct. 16 to discuss the various requests brought out last Sept. 30 (too bad I was not able to attend the said meeting because I did not receive the mail they sent) . Time Table Deadline for bionote and acknowledgement will be on Oct. 18. Send it via e-mail. November-December. We will be asked to come to the office to take a final look at the print-ready manuscripts for approval. For other Ubod queries / apprehensions / proposals send it to Ms Glenn .
