O what is your wonder         that will remind us                 of our ancestors? the topographic name of Pangasinan         or the so-called kingdoms                 of Layug na Caboloan? what is there to reclaim O what is there to protect? the great oaks who stood as pillars in the golden age of our literature         and forgotten past? what epic?         what mythos?                 what legends? O what is there to preserve? the language of the sumisigay°         and dumaralos° the lexicon and the man songs         of an unknown umaanlong°? come and listen O kaluyagan° come and listen to your children         in the streets they speak in tongue they speak in tongue         forced into their throats                 and gagged with the words:          one nation. one race. one language. one nation?         one race?                 one language? oh to the lost generations of Pangasinenses oh to them who have forgotten their mother tongue mother tongue na ina yo! ° sumisigay - fishe

A Poet Speaks of Caboloan here once was a kingdom of Caboloan where the mighty Amian stood still with the stalwart blades of defiant bamboo grass its rivers ancient as the blude-song & verbs running in my veins its forests        its hillocks its plains lush with gold & green orient as the Garden of Eden its air filled with the sweetness of wanton flowers with the Sanskrit songs of barbaric birds & turtledoves O here once was my demesne my Euphrates         my Hanging Gardens                 my Babel                         my Troy buried in the translucent pages right here in the province of my heart & in the afric of my mind strange that i wordlessly remember its dusks & dawns i still hear its plaintive call softly speaking softly through my words & in the falling rain nourishing

Pinmasyar ak ed Pay-yo kalabian dia'd panamegley na maatap kon ilalam. Say kuanda 'ra'y totoon daan, aya so pasen ya ayaman da'ra'y anito tan dinidyus. my poem anchored on a page unworded like an angel nailed and naked on a cross some critics wanted it dead because it is the bastard child of my elegant brain some poets unpoemed it with rage because it mirrors the truth about their lycanthropy but it will not be silenced my poem will feed their hunger with fire and beautiful pain till I is risen unscathed from the depths of oblivion
