A couple more days and it's Christmas vacation already. I'll probably not spend some time on-line until Jan.6, 2003! Whew! that's a very long vacation! I'm off to Pangasinan on the 22nd or 23rd of Dec. until the 27th. Makata issue for January 2003 will be released on Jan. 7. Will also update the Pinabli (a journal of Pangasinan poetry) section first thing next month.

Nexus: Buddha's Temple - a quarterly haiku journal is now moving from print to the Web and will be published by HaikuHut . The next issue will be in January, and they are now accepting submissions for the March 1, 2003 issue. Me and my friend and poet Jose Jason Chancoco rushed to the UST campus yesterday to attend the UP Institure for Creative Writing's lecture "Paglilinaw ng Estetikang Filipino" at the UST Center for Creative Writing and Studies sponsored by the NCCA. The guest speakers are Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera, Dr. Soledad Reyes and Oscar Campomares. The lecture was attended mostly by UST Arts & Letters students and some would-be writers and critics. We also spotted the poets Roberto & Rebecca Añonuevo.

The scripts may be written in the following genre: drama, comedy, or a combination of both. Deadline for submission of entries is on March 31. Fifteen (15) finalists would be selected from the entries, from which three would be declared winners. Announcement and awarding of the finalists and winners would be held in October 2003. Cash prizes await the winners. First place receives P150,000, second place receives P110,000, while the third place receives P85,000. All cash prizes are subject to tax. The finalists would all be given a special plaque of recognition.

This issue features the writing and art of Miriam Sagan, RK Singh, Sheila E. Murphy, Santiago Villafania , Wendy Cluff Cristofolini, Durlabh Singh, and David L. Kirkland. It's a beautiful thing! On the other hand, I'm revising (and re-writing) some of my early poems in English. Here's a couplet written after Jose Garcia Villa: i'd,not,bedeck,your,breast,with,roses,red, but,a,book,of,poetry,when,you,are,dead.
