Dalityapi Unpoemed

I pulled out another 100 copies of my book Pinabli from the printing press last Saturday before attending the monthly meeting of the Ulupan. As I expected, the first 100 copies released to the public did not sell well. So, Pangasinan poetry, anyone? At the Ulupan meeting, only few people turned out. On the other hand, four of my sonnets from Malagilion is published in the latest issue of the Balon Silew. The issue isn't that good as far as the technical aspect is concerned. We still need to improve our publication. It's a good sign though that we received literary contributions from Pangasinenses abroad. There's even a proposal to organize an Ulupan chapter in the US. The Ulupan officers hope to meet the Governor of Pangasinan on the third week of June to hear our proposals. In the meantime, we're waiting for a meteor shower :)

Had a lunch with my friend, Jason, yesterday afternoon. He just got back from the IYAS writers workshop. He definitely had some fun and a very poetic experience. Last night was another night of poetry with Eduardo Cong and an American woman (sorry I forgot her name) at La Corona. We were later joined by a certain Nova Alcantara who happened to ba a member of the Pinoy Writers . We ended up talking a lot of things from the abc's of literature to xyz's of American politics and globalization. It was almost 10pm when we parted. How I wish we could have something like this in Pangasinan with the Ulupan members. Perhaps a writers retreat or something for us to discuss or talk about the state of our language,literature and among other things Pangasinan :) To my bard-brother Cong, many thanks and goodluck on the play you are writing. Hope you can visit my country again in the near future. Here's to poetry and Pablo Neruda. And yes I am on my journey...

My friend, Eduardo Cong, picked me up yesterday noon to have some lunch. We're supposed to eat at Endangered Species but it was still closed when we arrived, so we went to this restaurant called Aristocrat instead. I asked him to try a Filipino dish called dinengdeng minus the onions, garlic and bangus (milkfish) as I learned that he is a vegetarian. As usual, we talked a lot about poetry, poetry and poetry. We dropped by the Corona, a hotel along M. H. del Pilar St. in Ermita, to have some coffee and proceeeded back to EAC. Introduced him to the dean and some faculty members of the newly created College of Liberal Arts. The aftermath, poetry reading until 5:00pm. Wow! Blogger layout is fresh indeed :) On the other hand, I am supposed to post something last Friday, May 7 but the internet connection in Lingayen was very slow. I could not even access Yahoo!. Anyway, I only spent a day in Pangasinan. I visited the City Library in Dagupan and gave them two copies of my book for their collection. I proceeded to Lingayen where I also gave two copies of my book to the Provincial Library. They already have a Pangasinaniana section but very few works in Pangasinan language. In fact, they only have less than 20 titles in Pangasinan. Less than 20 titles! He's here in the Philippine to do some research on Jose Rizal for a play he is writing. He will be joining us on the 14th of May for our World Poetry Day / Neruda Reading. On the other hand, I will be in Pangasinan this evening. I've learned that there will be another delay on the publication of the Ubod series for the mere reason that the NCCA's Department of Budget and Management has not released the intended allocations for the project. According to the informant, something to do with our current political climate. Huh? sounds like the funds are being used for other political agenda at the moment.
