Press Release Launching of Santiago Villafania's Book April 28 Pinabli and Other Poems (published by C & E Publishing for De La Salle University), a collection of Pangasinan poems with selected translations in Filipino, English, and Spanish will be launched on April 28, 5.pm, at the Solidaridad Bookshop in Padre Faura, Ermita, Manila. The Philippine Center of PEN International sponsors the launching by holding it during its regular general meeting on the last Saturday of the month. Villafania is a board member of Philippine PEN. Dr. Florangel Rosario Braid wrote in her introduction that Villafania’s rise to become the most outstanding Pangasinan poet today is phenomenal. His writings demonstrate a more than usual keen sense of observation about the human nature and the environment around him. First literary tilt winners awarded on Pangasinan Day

By April Montes LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, April 14 (PIA) --The province of Pangasinan centered this year’s celebration of Pangasinan Day on local literature, featuring the presentation and awarding of winners of the Pangasinan Literary Awards held on April 11 in this town. Pangasinan Literary Awards or “Kurit Panlunggaring” is the very first literary contest in the province designed to encourage local writers to produce more literary works written in the native tongue as to pay tribute to the beauty of Pangasinan language. “The Pangasinan Day is one way of renewing the Pangasinenses’ commitment to the preservation of our culture,” cited the provincial administrator Rafael Baraan. The contest was opened to all writers in Pangasinan and launched last February. Maria Luisa Elduayan, the provincial tourism officer said that they were able to gather 25 entries for essay writing and poetry writing in the youth division and 32 entries for poetry writing and short story writing in the adult divisi
