Call for applications for the National Book Development Trust Fund

The National Book Development Board (NBDB) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the National Book Development Trust Fund. For 2011, the NBDB will be awarding three (3) grants for the following topics: a) Health and Wellness, b) Environment and Biodiversity, and c) the English translation of a novel originally written in a regional language (viz. Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, Bikolano, Hiligaynon, Waray, Kapampangan, Pangasinense) or a novel in English by an author from the regions. Applicants are required to submit, along with the duly accomplished Application Form and other requirements, a draft equivalent to twenty-fivepercent (25%) or more of the entire manuscript, research, or multimedia work.Chosen authors will be awarded a grant of around P200,000.00 each. Whatever lip service has been given on the role of artists and writers has yet to be translated into policy and resources support. As Malou Jacob, executive director of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) noted, we “need the imagination of artists to move forward... and an economy of culture that can help transform the country’s image.” In terms of leadership in the various cultural institutions, this administration has done its part with the appointment of credible heads – Emily Abrera as chair of the Cultural Center of the Philippines with Raul Sunico as president.
