DALITEXT: cell phone text poetry writing contest The National Commission for Culture & the Arts (NCCA) in cooperation with the Filipinas Institute of Translation, Inc. (FIT), Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL) , and the U.P. Institute of Creative Writing launch DALITEXT, a text (SMS) poetry-writing contest. The contest aims to popularize and revitalize the tradition of one of the country’s oldest forms of poetry by using modern technology. I attended the AWARD meeting last July 19 at DTI Office in Dagupan City. Dir. Jaime Lucas was very pleased with the new AWARD Junior members organized by Dr. Victor Illustrisimo. The AWARD Junior members will help us in the preparation and the production of the forthcoming issue of the AWARD magazine. We also discussed about the Book, Photo & Art Exhibit to be help on Oct. 11-16 at Dagupan Business Center. Our president also suggested the possibility of adopting the Arguillas Residence as one of our major projects. Prior to the meeting, Dir. Lucas handed to me the amount of P5,000.00 from the Office of the Governor as a financial assistance for the publication of my first book Pinabli tan arum ni'ran Anlong . Philippine Bibliography - Compiled by the Asian Division of the Library of Congress, this classified bibliography consists of approximately 5000 entries for monographic works about the Philippines in all languages held by the Library. Hmmmm... 5000 entries.... that is quite huge and I pressume the collection is still growing. Too bad I couldn't see any works written in my language. Urduja beleaguered and other essays on Pangasinan language, literature, and culture by Rosa Maria Magno is included in the list though when I searched for the keyword Pangasinan. I am thinking of compiling my own Pangasinan Bibliography...

I'm still identifying some key objectives for the organization. One would be the development and management of Pangasinan's natural, cultural and documentary collections. The Ulupan na Pansiansia'y Salitan Pangasinan has not started documenting, preserving, maintaining and storing collections though we are already into publications of contemporary literature via the Balon Silew - the official publication of the Ulupan. I am sure that the would-be PCCA and the Ulupan will soon lead the acquisition of materials which are representative of our province's cultural and documentary heritage.

Passion and vision drives me quite strongly but I feel like a lone crusader. I guess I need to start a movement so that we can grow in number :) To a Pangasinense who happens to be reading this, I just want to let you know that your language is dying and your literary legacy virtually disappeared. So, what are you going to do about it, huh?

I am still seeking additional funds to cover the printing cost of the book. I'll be sending the manuscript to the press, hopefully, within this month or so.
