Pangasinan is 430 years old

LINGAYEN—If nothing else stands in the way, the province will likely observe and celebrate Pangasinan’s founding day for the first time on April 5, on the occasion of its 430th anniversary. A special committee created by Governor Amado Espino Jr. last year has determined after painstaking research that Pangasinan, as a territory, was founded by the Spaniards on April 5, 1580. Dr. Gonzalo Duque, former vice governor of Pangasinan and president of Lyceum-Northwestern University who chaired the committee, said their finding was based on available documents in various libraries in the Philippines and the National Historical Institute (NHI). However, Duque and Provincial Board Member Alfonso Bince Jr. clarified that the date is not yet set in stone. Tangway at Tagaytay, tinatahak

Taong 2010 ang pinakamakabuluhang taon sa kasalukuyang kasaysayan ng panitikang Kabitenyo. Ilulunsad ng Cavite Young Writers Association, Inc. (CYWA) ang Tangway at Tagaytay, isang kalipunan ng akda ng mga batang manunulat na isinilang, nagmula, o di kaya ay naninirahan ngayon sa lalawigan. Ang pangalan ng kalipunan na Tangway at Tagaytay ay mula sa dalawang bayang nagsisilbing bakood sa magkabilang dulo ng buong lalawigan ng Cavite. Ayon kay Alessandra Rose Miguel, kasapi ng CYWA at isa sa mga patnugot, “ in the old Spanish era, the land mass was referred to as “Tangway,” roughly translated in English as peninsula. ” Samantalang ang Tagaytay naman ang siyang pinakamataas na bahagi ng lalawigan. ANACBANUA Screening at U.P. Film Center

Subol in cooperation with the Sine Caboloan and the Ulupan na Pansiansia’y Salitan Pangasinan (UPSP) [Association for the Preservation of the Pangasinan Language] will screen for the first time in Metro Manila the award-winning Anacbanua (The Child of the Sun), the first full-length digital feature film in the Pangasinan language with English subtitles, on February 24 , 2010 , 7 pm at the Cine Adarna , U.P. Film Center , U.P. Diliman, Quezon City. Written, produced, directed, and edited by Pangasinan filmmaker Christopher Gozum, the experimental film won the Digital Lokal Lino Brocka Grand Prize as well as the Digital Lokal Best Director Award during the 11th Cinemanila International Film Festival in October 2009.
