i have so loved the hills
that there i planted orange-kisses
apple-kisses and a hundred fruit-kisses
but O! i love them most sans
the green scanty drapery
covering their proud twin peaks

and O! i love them mostly
when i hear the sweet little songs
snatched from the lyric lips of Sappho
no, i am not Gaius Catullus
i need not speak poetry
to make them - these hills
swell with pride

why my lips too are lines
of a perfect couplet
and my fingers are syllables
of iambic pentameters
i am the lousiest minion of the Muses
if i move no hills with a kiss
