Poems from the 1st Poetry Reading in Pangasinan will also be included in this issue.

On the other hand, I am re-posting the popular Pangasinan love song and/or seranade entitled Malinak Lay Labi slightly modified and with my own version in English.

Malinak Lay Labi

Intro:

Ag taka nalingoanan
Angga'd kauyos na bilay.

I.

Malinak lay labi
Oras lay mareen.
Mapalpalna'y dagem
Katikep so linaew.
Samit da'y kugip ko
Binangonan kon tampol,
Lapu'd say limgas mo
Sikan sika'y amamayoen.

II.

Lalo la bilay
No sika lay nanengneng
Napunas lan amin,
So ermen ya agbibiten.
No nanunotan ko lay samit da'y ugalim
Ag taka nalingoanan,
Angga'd kauyos na bilay.

Your eyes excelled the morning sun
Your smile laden my breast with flame
I'll boast upon that lilting sun
Your beauty worthy of a name
O what shall I give but a song
A song to sing my love for you
A song to time and space belong
Until the world is born anew

Intro:

I shall not forget you
Till I am laid to rest

The night is calm my love
And time is fleeting still

The wind is breathing low
Kissed by the evening dew

How sweet it is to dream

Santiago Villafania is a bilingual Filipino poet who writes in English and in his native language of Pangasinan. Born in Tuliao, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on 31 January 1971, Villafania graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pangasinan in 1991.
