LIRA Announces New Officers, Invites Fellows to Its Workshop

The members of Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika, at Anyo (LIRA), a group of poets writing in Filipino, present a new set of officers spearheaded by Edgar Calabia Samar (president), along with Ronald Atilano (vice president), Anna Trisha Monica Osorio (secretary), Jeffrey Espiritu (treasurer), and Beverly Siy (PRO).

LIRA also invites young writers interested to hone their craft in Filipino poetry to join this year's workshop that will run from July 2003 up to March 2004. LIRA takes pride in its poetry clinic first organized in 1985 by multi-awarded poet and critic and the most recent National Artist for Literature, Virgilio S. Almario, known in the literary circle as Rio Alma.

LIRA's workshops have inspired and set the careers of a number of young writers now among the most respected names in Filipino poetry. They include Palanca hall-of-fame awardee Roberto T. Añonuevo, prolific author and editor Romulo P. Baquiran Jr., performance artist and UP-ICW director Vim Nadera, Centennial prize-winning playwright and lawyer Nick Pichay, poet and journalist Ariel Dim. Borlongan, poet-teacher and publisher Michael M. Coroza, and multi-awarded poet and children's story writer, Rebecca T. Añonuevo. Aside from the names mentioned above, workshop lecturers include Marne Kilates, Rhandee Garlitos, Joseph T. Salazar, and Fidel Rillo among others.

To qualify for the workshop, interested applicants must submit at least five poems in Filipino (typed double spaced on regular size bond paper), a brief bionote (including contact number, address, and email) and 1x1 ID picture to:
