ADVANCE NOTICE FOR

10th International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics



The 10th International Conference on Austronesian Linguistics (10-ICAL) will be hosted by the Linguistic Society of the Philippines and SIL International, 3-6 January 2006 in the Philippines. Details of specific venue, fees and accommodations to be announced. Tentative location: Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.



Scholars will be invited to offer papers on any aspect of language or linguistics specifically related to Austronesian anguages, including but not limited to: historical and comparative matters, phonetics and phonology, morphosyntax and discourse, lexicography and semantics, language preservation and development, literature, and language teaching. Papers may be data- or theory-oriented. Presenters will have 30 minutes each--20 for presentation and 10 for discussion. Theme- or area-related workshops and symposia are invited.

TRY-OUTS FOR MADAMA BUTTERFLY AT THE CCP



Auditions for the opera "Madama Butterfly" will be held on October 9-11 at the MKP Multi-Purpose Hall, 4th Floor of the CCP Main Building. Auditions are by appointment.



"Madama Butterfly" will be presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Philippine Opera Company from July to August 2004.



Those interested in auditioning for the production must each bring 5R size photo, resume and a photocopy of an audition piece from Madama Butterfly.
