I received an acknowledgement receipt yesterday in connection with my entry to the 2003 NCCA Writers' Prize under the Poetry Category.
It is also stated in the said letter "It would be advisable to send a copy of the translation in Filipino or in English of your poems."
However, it is clearly stated in the guidelines that all categories are open to English and all Philippine languages.
The guidelines should have been in the following instead; "All categories are open to English, Filipino and other Philippine languages with translation in Filipino or in English."
One thing more, my entry is under the Poetry category and not a Translation project.
I sent an email to the NCCA already informing them to review what they've posted on their website (again) so as not to misguide or misinform writers / authors writing in other Philippine languages.
INDEED, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is in line with its mission to preserve and protect native languages & written work and promote excellence in creative writing in the different languages.
To Protect & Preserve native languages it is advisable to have a translation in Filipino or in English!
