Call for Papers for PanitiKabataan 2004
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts, in cooperation with the UP Institute of Creative Writing, UMPIL and the UP Writers’ Club is now accepting critical papers for "PantiKabataan 2004", the first Student Conference on Philippine Literature, to be held in UP Diliman, May 28-29, 2004. Those qualified to submit are undergraduate college students, 16-21 years old. They will be given transportation and food allowance and a modest honorarium. Twelve (12) slots are available in this groundbreaking conference. Three (3) will be chosen from the NCR, 3 from Luzon, 3 from Visayas and 3 from Mindanao.
The papers should be about Philippine Literature written from the viewpoint of the youth with topics such as critical work on local writers and their body of work, Campus Publishing, Creative Writing Programs and Workshops, Popular Literature (comics, teen lit, fan fiction, supernatural and horror writing, romances etc.). Papers will be judged on the merit of scholarliness, clear and concrete critical insight and relevance. They must be written in English or Filipino while papers tackling vernacular work must be translated into these languages, especially excerpts of texts. Participants are encouraged to prepare a multimedia presentation.
Submissions (8-12 pages, double-spaced, four hard copies and a diskette copy) should be enclosed in an envelope with a short biodata or resume, a recommendation by an English or Filipino professor/adviser and a notarized certificate of originality. Contact data such as mobile phone numbers, landline numbers and e-mail addresses are a must. The chosen manuscripts will be compiled in book form.
