Discover the countryʼs treasure trove of literary gems as the NBDB fills this November with a long-list of activities that will inspire Filipinos to read more Philippine-authored books in this yearʼs Read Pinoy!: The 12th Philippine Book Development Month celebration.

The NBDB invites all publishers and authors to participate in different lectures and forums for stakeholders of the book publishing industry. On November 7, the NBDB will hold Textbook R and D, a forum for publishers on how to improve the quality of textbooks that they publish. On November 10, publishers who want to venture into translating new and existing regional works are invited to attend Lost in Translation, where issues on specific language to use and the presence of a bilingual/trilingual market outside NCR will be discussed. The forum Writerʼs Rights on November 12 aims to educate authors on issues concerning copyright, fees, royalties, and other compensations from publishers. Market-Based Selling for Publishers on November 14 will help publishers sell creatively. Finally, Philippine representatives from Simon and Schuster, Penguin, and Random House will also speak in a forum on how local authors can get published abroad. Finally, the NBDB will bring to Cebu Publishing 101, a conference that will bring together all the relevant topics in academic and book publishing.

Teachers of elementary and high school are invited attend the lectures How to Read Poems, Novels, Essays, Etc., which will feature the biggest names in Philippine Literature, who will provide techniques on how to read different genres on November 18-27.

Students and teachers will showcase their talents in storytelling and knowledge about our own stories in book marathon and storytelling contests that will be held at the TriNoma Mall and the Ayala Center in Cebu City.

Venture into the art of food and writing with the best Bulacan and Pampanga have to offer. Relish the good food and literature that abounds in the province in the Food and Writing tour on November 22. On November 8, relive Jose Rizalʼs opus, as celebrities and authors read Noli Me Tangere in parts in an evening of fun and good food.

Spearheaded by the NBDB, the Philippine Book Development Month, which early this year was moved by President Arroyo from June to November, is a yearly celebration recognizing the important contributions of books and reading in the countryʼs growth and well-being.

This yearʼs Read Pinoy! 12th PBDM celebration will be celebrated in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Filipinas Heritage Library, Ayala Malls, Yuchengco Museum, Manila Bulletin, Cebu Daily News, Anvil Publishing, Fuji Xerox Philippines, University of San Carlos, Philippine Booksellers Association, Inc., Galerie Joaquin, and National Book Store.

Santiago Villafania is a bilingual Filipino poet who writes in English and in his native language of Pangasinan. Born in Tuliao, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on 31 January 1971, Villafania graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pangasinan in 1991. Villafania advocates for the resurgence of Pangasinan as a literary language.
