FILIPINO SHORT FILMS SCREENING with Mervin Espina, curator of the 6th South East Asian Cinema's Conference. Featuring SURREAL RANDOM MMS TEXTS PARA ED INA, AGUI, TAN KAAMONG YA MAKAKAILIW ED SIKA : GURGURLIS ED BANUA (Surreal Random MMS Texts for a Mother, a Sister, and a Wife who Longs for You : Landscape with Figures).Winner of the Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema, 10th Cinemanila International Film Festival (2008).

Using a Pangasinan-language translation of Filipino-American activist Carlos Bulosan’s 1942 poem “Landscape with Figures” as a narration, an expatriate Filipino filmmaker working in the Middle East sends surreal, random, and found digital images of displacement and longing to his loved ones in the Pangasinan province of the northern Philippines.

Santiago Villafania is a bilingual Filipino poet who writes in English and in his native language of Pangasinan. Born in Tuliao, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on 31 January 1971, Villafania graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pangasinan in 1991. Villafania advocates for the resurgence of Pangasinan as a literary language. His works in the vernacular are some of the most representative, if not among the few that comprise that Pangasinan contemporary literary body.
