Poem: Catwalk (with translations in Arabic & Italian)



she catwalks searching
for a certain sky
living her ninthhood
on the streets
and alleyways
that never sleep
at night

the hours
only moments
& in her catness
she slips slyly
longing to be free
wordlessly...

leaving only the poems
she has written
on my body

softly
the sound of
a closing door


مشية القطة
للشاعر الفلبيني سانتياغو فيلافانيا

تمشي مشية القطة بحثاً
عن سماءٍ ما
تعيش حياتها التاسعة
في الشوارع
والأزقة
التي أبداً لا تنام
ليلاً

الساعات
ليست أكثر من لحظات
ثُمَّ تنسَلُّ بمكر
بطبيعتها القططية
توّاقةً إلى الحرية
دون أن تنبس ببنت شفة...

تاركةً القصائدَ
التي سطّرَتها
على جسدي

صوتُ
بابٍ ينغلق
برفق

Lei è in cerca di passerelle
per un certo cielo
sprecando beltà e gioventù
...per le strade
e i vicoli
che mai dormono
la notte

le ore
solo momenti
e nel suo essere gatta
si infila subdolamente
nel desiderio di essere libera
senza parole...

lasciando solo le poesie
che lei ha scritto
sul mio corpo

dolcemente
il rumore
di una porta che si chiude

Santiago Villafania is a bilingual Filipino poet who writes in English and in his native language of Pangasinan. Born in Tuliao, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on 31 January 1971, Villafania graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pangasinan in 1991. Villafania advocates for the resurgence of Pangasinan as a literary language.
