Nanlapu ed gapo na bilay ko
aanapen ko so lupam
balet natan anengneng ko la

Natan anengneng ko
so ayat so limgas
say agnatukor a karakpan
na lupa
ya aanapen ko

Natan nalmo taka
tan saraman so manelek
tan ag angitalek ed siak karuman
et masayem ed agda impananap
a singa ginawak

Aligaligen ak ed derleng
na limgas mo
tan pilalek kon nanengneng ka
na sanlasus a mata

Say pusok pinarlangan na panangaro
tan ag tinmundan nananap
ed sayan inkelaw kon limgas
ya amamayok natan

Ambaing ak
ya tawagen iyan panangaron too
tan antakot ak ed Dyus
ya tawagen iyan dibino

Say balingit na engas mo
singa palpalis na kabuasan
sinmabi ed kareenan na tanamanan
inlinawam so balon bilay ed siak
nagmaliw ak ya kaagewan
tan aninom

Say kamareruak agayla'y liket
kada gisla na inkapalsak
et pinabli ka

Say agaag mo
amarlang na apuy dia ed pusok
para ed siak
say dalin tan tawen

Say pana na arok
sinmabi la ed pegdat to
Wala ak ed abung na panangasi
tan say pusok
et pasen na pirawat

From the beginning of my life
I have been looking for your face
but today I have seen it

Today I have seen
the charm, the beauty,
the unfathomable grace
of the face
that I was looking for

Today I have found you
and those who laughed
and scorned me yesterday
are sorry that they were not looking
as I did

I am bewildered by the magnificence
of your beauty
and wish to see you
with a hundred eyes

My heart has burned with passion
and has searched forever
for this wondrous beauty
that I now behold

I am ashamed
to call this love human
and afraid of God
to call it divine

Your fragrant breath
like the morning breeze
has come to the stillness of the garden
You have breathed new life into me
I have become your sunshine
and also your shadow

My soul is screaming in ecstasy
Every fiber of my being
is in love with you

Your effulgence
has lit a fire in my heart
for me
the earth and sky

My arrow of love
has arrived at the target
I am in the house of mercy
and my heart
is a place of prayer

Santiago Villafania is a bilingual Filipino poet who writes in English and in his native language of Pangasinan. Born in Tuliao, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan on 31 January 1971, Villafania graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Pangasinan in 1991. Villafania advocates for the resurgence of Pangasinan as a literary language. His works in the vernacular are some of the most representative, if not among the few that comprise that Pangasinan contemporary literary body. In his first book Balikas na Caboloan (Verses from Caboloan), the Pangasinan anlong resurfaces asserting its tradition amidst intersecting and pollinating genres and literary influences.
