THE NEXT BIG THING–A CHAIN LETTER FOR WRITERS

I got this info from my bard-brother Jose Jason Chancoco, the acclaimed author of “Pagsasatubuanan: Poetikang Bikolnon”. This a chain letter for writers where the recipient has to answer ten questions about their latest or upcoming book. So as not to break the chain, I am posting this to my blog or personal website at www.dalityapi.com

1. What is the title of your latest/upcoming book?

My latest book “Pinabli & Other Poems” is a collection of Pangasinan poetry with selected translations in Filipino, English, and Spanish. Currently completing my latest book of poetry in English with the title “Murtami & Other Poems”.

2. Where did the idea come from for the book?

Having learned about the paucity of published works in Pangasinan language/literature, I started writing poetry in my native tongue in 2001 and self-published the first version in 2003. Its publication is an attempt to open the propylaea of literary renaissance in Pangasinan.

3. What genre does your book fall under?

Poetry or anlong in Pangasinan language. Perhaps semi-autobiography in verse!

4. What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?

Indie actors. Some of the poems in "Pinabli" were featured in Christopher Gozum's award-winning film Anacbanua (2009) as voice over narration providing concrete ideas and emotions to the cinematic images presented.

5) What is the one-sentence synopsis of your upcoming book?

Murtami illuminates the Pangasinan soul, language, culture, and identity.

6) Who published your latest book? Who will publish the next one?

“Pinabli” is published by C&E Publishing for De La Salle University. I hope “Murtami” will be published by any of the university presses. Perhaps I will self-publish and have it available at Amazon.com :)

7) How long will it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?

Two months or so. I am currently finalizing the manuscript. Ready for printing.

8) What other books would you compare this story (project) to within your genre?

Well, like any other poetry book I think.

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Life. People. Friends. Lovers. Pangasinan. Philippines. God.

10) What else about the book that might pique the reader’s interest?

There's always something in this book for everybody. It's poetry after all. I urge the readers to cross the page. A poem or two will definitely resonate with the tones of their being.
