I attended the Neruda en el Corazon (Neruda sa Puso) poetry reading last night at DLSU, with my friend Eduardo Cong. The said event is in commemoration of the birth centennial of Pablo Neruda and a part of the Spanish Festival for the Culture and the Arts sponsored by Instituto Cervantes. Spanish and Filipino poets (Ana Rossetti, Alfred Yuson, Jose F. Lacaba, Marra Pl. Lanot, Joi Barrios, Marjorie Evasco and Benilda Santos) read some poems of Neruda in Spanish and in English and Tagalog translations. Ambassador Jorge Monteno of Chile awarded the Medalla Presidencia Centenario Pablo Neruda to National Artist F. Sionil Jose. I only met Pete Lacaba after the reading :)

Yet another poem-in-progress :) The Kinalakian(s) were pre-Pangasinic amazons also known as the red-breasted warriors of princess Urduja. They practiced the so-called singgulo , an ancient martial arts using bolos (blades) and sticks made of wood or bamboo. kinalakian (or the women-warriors) we haply remember the time when you left your sons and lovers to bear the arms and the burden of the red-breasted warriors of Urduja you never looked back from whence you came the singgulo became your way of life your names were battle cries on foughten fields until your stories outlived your youth one by one you drifted into oblivion the last braids of locks were burnt to honor the princess of the astern the last blades and arrows were forged to plow the heart of Caboloan where your broken skulls and bones were sown the prize you bartered with your breath and blood that elusive dream you named freedom when you returned into the womb of Eve you gained immortality instead histories were told and l...

The EAC College of Liberal Arts invited me to read a couple of my poems this afternoon. I believe this poetry reading is a part of the Festival of the Arts sponsored by the college. My bard-brother, Jason, who is currently in Bicol send a text message three days ago informing me that a couple of my poems appeared in the latest issue of the Philippine Graphic. A reason for me to secure a copy of the said magazine :) On the other hand, I started the following poem last night and finished the first draft this morning. Still a work-in-progress and subject for massive deconstruction. I posted it at Pinoy Poets e-Group for comments and critiques. untitled much younger now we the poets of the brave new race killing each other with manufactured nuts and bolts we are a generation of serpent-tongues and x y z impatient with the oldspeak of post&neo-modernism our poems consummable fastfoods bonsaic haunted by memories of punctuations and histories of metres and rhymes we live our lives in penthouses of Ivory Towers reaching it through a backdoor we are the shadows of the the elders we stabbed to death chewed and spewed the pages of their soul to paint a transluscent ima...

Re: Ubod Series According to the coordinator for publications of the NCCA, there's another delay in the publication of Ubod due to administrative problem. The graphic artist who is supposed to work on the page composition resigned. Duh! I guess it's going to come out in 2005... perhaps!
