I've updated Balikas 1 & 2 (poetry in Pangasinan dialect.) Also corrected some spelling errors after learning from a fellow Pangasinense that there is no syllable wa and letter k in written Pangasinan. Thus, the word wala (meaning There is) should be written as oala and sika tan siak (meaning You and Me) should be sica tan siac . However, to make the poems contemporary I have retained the use of letter K instead of C. I'm getting some occasional hits from this page too. On the other hand, I received the following reply from OIST! after submitting some poems for possible inclusion in their maiden issue coming out this June 2002. hello, thanks for your interest. we will be handling your poems to our section editors and you will be hearing from us as soon as they returned your manuscripts. Well, that's a good sign. I just hope that this local publication who aims to be an outlet for the literary contributors will not end up like MUSA. Nexus: Poems & Rhymes from Abra Today.

THE BLUE ROSE
(an extended haiku)
Gentle the blue rose
soft petals reflect his soul
delicate his words
Tender his heart lies
thorns do not harm those who see
his radiant light
Words are like petals
each surrounding the true heart
in soft ornament
Offering solace
from harsh winds and tournament
strength within beauty
(for Sonny)

the language of the leaves
music upon your lips
that will silence the skylarks

i know you
only through your songs
you were Peter Pan-like
a leaf player/singer
and like a leaf
you grow old from goldeth green
into summer gold
the last note is heard
a leaf is plucked from a tree
muted like a broken flute
the singer is gone
but his music still remains
i have no voice to sing of you
but this i made in your honour
to pass into eclipse
sometimes from now
i will see you among the leaves
in some glade or garden
in the meantime
this is goodbye
i will not sorrow

it is God's desire

initiation into the occult
the nipa hut on the hillock
like a solitary chapel
coppered against the sea
of grass where beasts
of burden a-grazing
it is no panoramic scene
or a haunting place for rituals
but the sound of the rushing winds
seems to echo the pagan litanies
and latin orisons
my heart is trembling like a leaf
as i come nearer and nearer
the woodhenge
the fountainhead
facing the cerulean skies
arms raised
softly speaking softly
reading from an empty book
perhaps praying to the anitos
or the hideous Bathala
i am become a sand in a dune
a point in a circle
i am
a shell
a vessel
in my thirst for secret knowledge
i am born and born again
in a Sanskrit dawn
only to find myself alone
