Another sonnet added to Malagilion: Soniton Pangasinan . This one is done in Shakespearean sonnet form which took me a couple of days to finish. I visited the National Library again and this time I was able to find some rare Pangasinan writings in the Rare Collections. There's the Impambilay na Arin Esteban tan Reyna Hipolita , Arte de la lengua Pangasinan o Caboloan by Fr. Mariano Pellicer and Bellas Artes (58pp) which I believe most of the Pangasinenses do not even know these works existed. There's also the classic Bilay tan Kalkalar nen Rizal by Pablo Mejia but I was not allowed to print a copy of the said book as it is their policy not to reproduce a rare collection. Well, policy or not, the National Library is depriving the us, Pangasineses, our literary heritage. I received an acknowledgement receipt yesterday in connection with my entry to the 2003 NCCA Writers' Prize under the Poetry Category. It is also stated in the said letter "It would be advisable to send a copy of the translation in Filipino or in English of your poems." However, it is clearly stated in the guidelines that all categories are open to English and all Philippine languages. The guidelines should have been in the following instead; "All categories are open to English, Filipino and other Philippine languages with translation in Filipino or in English." One thing more, my entry is under the Poetry category and not a Translation project. I sent an email to the NCCA already informing them to review what they've posted on their website (again) so as not to misguide or misinform writers / authors writing in other Philippine languages. An invitation has been extended to me through Edwin Camaya of the Kapampangan Network to attend the Pre-Summit Workshops on Federalism and the Summit itself. But I cannot attend the said pre-summit though due to my work load. Will try to make it though on Friday Oct. 24 On the other hand, the Ulupan na Pansiansia'y Salitan Pangasinan (Association for the Preservation of the Pangasinan Language) will visit the Juan D. Nepomuceno Center for Kapampangan Studies this Oct. 25, 2003. NBDB's First Manuscript Fair The National Book Development Board (NBDB) announces the first-ever Manuscript Fair dubbed as Gandang Aklat, Ilathala, open to both amateur and seasoned writers in the country. The Manuscript Fair is open to all Filipino authors/writers, whose submitted manuscripts will be displayed from August 1 to December 30, 2003.
