I am now drafting the page for the October issue of the Makata. Still accepting poetry submissions until the 30th of September. I've updated the profile section of my site and slightly modified the poetry pages. Wanderlust link is removed indefinitely. Might as well read some Poetry news and reviews at Poetry Daily . dreaming of UP, Silliman, Ateneo and UST i cannot pen the faces of your muses strolling on womb of your ground their music their poetry their laughter might have filled and haunted your halls where your first geniuses pound the skulls of some striving poets and dangerous minds i long to fill my lungs with your air i pine for your libertine flowers who can thaw the thin ice covering the polar regions of my restless mind

My 2nd poem ever written in Tagalog. My 2nd poem ever written in Tagalog. The first one was entitled Haiku Tagala which I've taken offline.
sa dibdib ng Cordillera
nahawi na ang karimlan
na bumabalabal sa buwan
kasing tamlay ng mga tala
ang mga matang nagmamatyag
sa mga aninong naglalaho
sa sukal na daan patungo
sa isang lihim na tagpuan
minsan
tanging mga yabag ng paa nila
ang maririnig tuwing bukang-liwayway
dala-dala'y araro at hindi armas
pawis at hindi dugo ang umaagos
sa sunog nilang balat
at hapung katawan
anong poot ang naglalagablab
sa kanilang dibdib
kung kaya't sila ngayo'y animo
mandirigmang manhid sa sugat
ng salita't kagat ng taglamig?
bukas
sa may gulod - kalbaryo
ng mga kayumangging senturion
makikita ang mga palatandaang
walang pangalan o alaala
tanging mga damong ligaw
at mga ibong gala ang nakapag-alay
ng dasal bago sila tuluyang ibaon
sa limot

on reading the works of the philippine contemporary poets have you ever browsed the flyleaves of their hardbound anthologies? have you ever read the lines of their poems the high-flown words bleeding in each glossy page? i am flabbergasted! i did not realise that poetry should be written with words that you need to scan a dictionary to understand what they mean if you can't find a clue on the context and between the lines and so these are the new poets who manufactured nuts and bolts disguising the brown truth with their white-colored voice

BREAKING SIGNS: Young Writers And the Growth of Literature by Cirilo Bautista AS A poet, critic, and teacher, we have been engaged for the past month’s literary activities. We have no other way of contributing to the so-called advancement of our culture but through personal efforts aimed at helping other writers. Even then, we are sometimes misunderstood, and our well-meaninged intentions are taken for what they are not supposed to be, particularly our critical evaluation of poetic works. lila
i saw a flower
nodding near a stream
wasting her sooteness
and her dreams
i bent to kiss
and stated my claim
i plucked and gave her
an arab name
for short a time
my lila faded young
i wrote her songs
but laid unsung
i penned my grief
in rhyming lines of woe
recite them
where my lila used to grow
in valleys veiled
where raging rivers run
then springtime came
in dewy gown
i found fair buds
and blumes a-swaying
where my lila was
once a-lying
why did i mope O
why did i grieve
allah knows when to rise her
from the grave

Finally! my site's browser problem is fixed. I had to remove a few effects on selected pages so that it will load or display properly in Netscape/Mozilla browsers. I still noticed some minor errors in NS 4.7 though. On the other hand, I was not able to release my succinct monthly newsletter due to inaccessibility of my old mailing list provider. Should you wish to receive the latest news and updates about this site, please feel free to add your email address in the form provided below this page. i took the scent of the flowers and the warmth of the waking dawn the stillness of the fleeting mist and the drops of the morning dew the beauty of the twilight hour and the soul of the starry night the effulgence of the distant stars and the smoothness of the gleaming moonlight i fashioned thee from all these things, earth angel as how Pygmalion fashioned Galatea out of stone

I've just learned that the official publication of Gumil Filipinas is also entitled Balikas . I've changed the Balikas section of my site to Pinabli : A Journal of Pangasinan Poetry so as to avoid conflict or issue that may arise with the said publication. Pinabli is a Pangasinan term which means Beloved . Makata Issue No.9 is now available online featuring the poetry of Eugenio R. Corpus III, Rosendo Makabali, Charles Carpio, Misael Paranial and Alexander Martin Remollino . One of my haiku is included in September 2002 issue of the The Heron's Nest : soft rain a frog leaps from one leaf to another
