In the News: Rare Greek Scroll Found With Egyptian Mummy More than 2,000 years ago, a roll of papyrus with extensive writings was enshrouded with a body that was mummified for preservation. The scroll is the oldest surviving example of a Greek poetry book, according to scholars who have been studying it. Just for the poem of it, you might want to print this Poetic License and hang it on your wall and point it out to anyone who doubts your poetic skill!

Philippine Literary Workshops and Contests: Forces in Literary Growth by Cirilo F. Bautista As a communal text, any literary discourse is a contrived utterance that addresses several levels of reality, but to communicate through this text, writer and reader must put into operation certain sociological processes that will make it intelligible. "I write, therefore, I am," might as well provide the structural foundation of this sociology. To write a poem or a story involves the deliberate reworking of social elements to achieve the writer's intention. But it is, first of all, a linguistic construction, fixed in a situs of specific explication, demanding of the writer and the reader a vast expertise in language, in the first, to configurate the human condition according to a planned aesthetics, in the second, to be able to embrace it. A couple of days ago I submitted some of my poems for the forthcoming issue of the 3rd Muse Poetry Journal . I'm hoping that at least one of my poems will be published in the said journal. Anyway, my friend Jason invited me last night to watch the play entitled El Publico performed by the Dulaang Up at the RCBC Plaza in Makati. Well, we managed to take a couple of reserved seats intended for some foreign guests or so. heehehe! I attended last night's book launching of the Malate Literary Folio at De La Salle University with my friend Jason Chancoco. We were given the chance to read poetry along with the members of the Malate Literary Folio, Plaridel, and other guests. Jason read three of his poems and I, my poem entitled Ciryl for Levi Celerio . The poetess Rebecca Añonuevo was also there and graced the event by reading a couple of her poems. It was my first time to read a poem in public and I felt as if I am stepping out of my shell. Might as well memorize some of my poems :-)
